Varieties of Peace Post-doc Positions Open!
1-2 post-doctoral positions in peace and conflict studies
The Department of Political Science is now hiring 1-2 post-doctoral fellows in peace and conflict studies. The post-doc position(s) are fixed term employment, 24 months, full time in residence at Umeå University, Sweden. The holder of the position can conduct research for at least 80% and can teach up to a fifth of full time employment (20%). The first day of employment is 1 September 2018, or according to agreement.
The Department of Political Science at Umeå University has about 60 employees and conducts research in fields such as peace and conflict studies, representative democracy, municipalities and administration, and sustainable development (for more information, see http://www.pol.umu.se/english/?languageId=1).

Qualifications
A person who holds a doctorate in peace- and conflict studies, political science or relevant subjects, or a foreign degree that is deemed equivalent to a doctorate, shall be qualified for a post-doctoral appointment. Priority should be given to candidates who have completed their doctoral degree no more than three years before the closing date of the application. A candidate who has completed his/her degree prior to this should be given equal priority if special circumstances exist. Special circumstances include absence due to illness, parental leave or clinical employment, appointments of trust in trade union organizations or similar circumstances.
Research skills and knowledge about the research problems related to the themes of the research program Varieties of Peace will be the main selection criteria. Proficiency in spoken and written English and the ability to teach in English is a requirement. The ability to conduct research independently and the ability to participate in international research collaboration are important skills.
The most important qualification for the positions is the capacity to contribute to the research program’s overall goals, as expressed in the applicant’s proposed research plan (see below). We welcome applications concerning research on post-conflict societies, conceptualizations of peace, different methods to study peace, and comparisons between different types of peace and post-conflict societies.

A research plan (maximum 2500 words) demonstrating how the applicant’s research agenda would contribute to the research program Varieties of Peace and specifically how it addresses the two research questions: 1) What characterizes peace after peace processes initiated in the 1990s and how does it vary? 2) How can this variation be described and explained?
